To help manufacturing firms staff talent, The Manufacturing and Industrial Innovation Council (MaiiC) will be launching the next cohort of the ApprenticeNYC for Advanced Manufacturing program. This is a year-long city sponsored apprenticeship program that helps manufacturing businesses hire critical entry level talent, that has the following parts:

  • A Mandatory 110-hour virtual pre-apprenticeship for participants, to ensure a fit for the program and workplace
  • 400 hours of in-person, hands-on training at LaGuardia Community College and MakerSpace NYC
  • 1,500 hours of on-the-job training at your business site
  • Wage subsidization for employers during the 12-month apprenticeship
  • All apprentices will be trained in modalities such as Laser Cutting, CNC Machining, Metal Fabrication, 3D-Printing and Additive Manufacturing, Welding, Woodworking, Blueprint Reading and Drawing, and more
  • Support for the apprentice’s supervisors to ensure effective on-the-job training. Supervisors are required to attend free, 20-hour virtual training sessions on job instruction methods and job relations, to increase retention among staff.

To become an ApprenticeNYC employer and develop the next generation of manufacturing talent, fill out this interest form.

As New York City seeks to rebuild its economy from the pandemic Policies aimed at protecting and growing industrial jobs can improve not only NYC’s economy, but the lives of nearby residents and workers, who are disproportionately low-income and people of color. These are not just vital jobs, but the higher pay and growth opportunities make them family-supporting careers. In fact, the average wage for an employee in the manufacturing sector is around $69,000 as opposed to around $38,000 in retail and $31,000 in food services. That is why business groups, community advocates, and companies throughout NYC (including NewYorkTruckStop.com) joined the Industrial Jobs Coalition.  The coalition seeks to:

  • Create a Central Office to Prioritize Industrial Businesses
  • Use Zoning to Protect Businesses and Support Their Expansion
  • Update Business Incentives
  • Improve Industrial-Use Transportation Infrastructure
  • Prioritize Funding for Industrial Business Support

Please consider joining the coalition if you have not already done so.
