In the wake of recent well publicized pedestrian fatalities, the City announced a massive ticket blitz on traffic violations over the next few weeks. In an unprecedented move the NYPD announced that the recent blitz will include 1,200 traffic enforcement agents and over 500 uniformed police. What does this mean for commercial vehicles? They are targeting speeding, failure to yield, and cell phone use. This according to Chief Thomas Chan, commanding officer of the NYPD Transportation Bureau. Just last week in a press conference Mayor de Blasio boasted how the NYPD already started cracking down on speeding and failure to yield tickets. Over the last year the City has issued 100,000 speeding tickets, double the previous record and 30,000 failure to yield to pedestrian tickets, three times the previous record.
