A New Year Means New Fees

new feesSo as 2018 approaches, we must turn our attention to our filing renewals. What’s new? What do we need and what don’t we need? Well, here’s a quick rundown:

IFTA Renewal (International Fuel Tax Agreement). This is due by January 1, but you can start the renewal process effective November 1st and the easiest and quickest way is through your OSCAR Account. If you’re a NYS carrier, this is surely the way to go.

UCR (Unified Carrier Registration). There’s a little controversy brewing for 2018 on this one. It seems that there is a legal battle in the works Involving the fee structure and because of this, renewal has been delayed. I’ll keep you posted on this one.

HUT (Highway Use Tax). New York State carriers need not apply for new stickers. The 22nd series will still be applicable for 2018.

ELD (Electronic Logging Device). December 18th, 2017. Check with FMCSA for exemptions and implementations, but make no mistake, it’s here.

And, of course, December 31, 2017 is the end of the 4th Quarter, so your Quarterly HUT and IFTA returns will be due by January 1, 2018.

Carriers who operate in the Metro region must also monitor any news of congestion pricing and mitigating schemes, as well as ticket blitzes (parking & moving violations). We will keep you posted on those developments as well.
