The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) seeing a shift in consumer behavior related to e-commerce, began the Neighborhood Loading Zone (NLZ) program in 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic shifted how millions of Americans work and shop helping supercharge the e-commerce boom leading to a rapid expansion of the NLZ program.
NLZ aims to accommodate deliveries to residential streets by providing dedicated space at the curb for vehicles to safely conduct their pick-up and drop-off activity of goods and passengers. The designated curb access is designed to decrease the need for double parking, blocking bike lanes, parking in bus stops or in other No Standing zones.
Recent expansion bought the full number of NLZs to 111. The specific locations are:
