If you’re preparing to move home you might be researching how to transport your car to a different state. Moving across states takes a whole lot of organization and so it’s best to get started early. When you’re approaching the process, here are a few helpful tips for transporting your vehicle.

1 . Gather the appropriate documents

Before you transport your car across states you’ll need to provide details of your insurance terms and conditions. You’ll also need a bill of lading. Some shipping companies will ask to see your registration and title, yet not all services will ask for these. Many shipping companies will offer their own insurance options, (up to a certain amount). You’ll need to check how much cover is offered, and under which circumstances.

2. Consider which type of transportation

There are generally two different options available for shipping a vehicle, you can choose either open-air or enclosed transport. As the name suggests, enclosed transport means your car is protected inside an enclosed vehicle. Open-air means that your vehicle is shipped using a non-enclosed vehicle.

Open-air transport is cheaper than enclosed transport, and it can also ensure a faster shipping process. The downside is that with open-air there’s slightly more chance of damage to the car (aka due to debris or weather conditions). Enclosed shipping can offer improved protection, however, this option is more expensive.

3. Find a reputable company

When you’re transporting your car to a different state you’ll need to find a reputable company. Make sure that you conduct research, check out reviews, testimonials, and the company websites. Choose a company with great experience and expertise. If you’ve recently bought a new car you’ll want to make sure that it’s in safe hands!

If you’re looking for a fantastic shipping company contact Ship a Car Direct. They offer options for both enclosed and open-air shipping services, depending on your preferences. Unlike some other shipping companies, Ship a Car Direct does not require an up-front deposit.

4. Prep your vehicle

Before you ship your vehicle you’ll need to prepare it. Ensure that you clean the interior of your car, and the outside too. Take a few pictures of your vehicle, this way, you can keep note of any marks and scratches that are already present. Ensure that the gas tank is at least a quarter full. Your car will need at least this much gas, so that it can be moved onto and off of the trailer.

5. Keep your budget in mind

When you’re transporting your car you’ll want to have an approximate budget in mind. If you’re moving home, creating a budget will help you to keep on top of all of your different expenses. There are plenty of costs to factor in, from removal costs to cleaning costs, deposits, and real estate fees.

Using these simple tips you’ll simplify the process of moving your vehicle. If you have any further questions about shipping your car, it’s best to talk to your removal company.
