If you spend a lot of money on a truck or you manage a fleet, it’s understandable to want to minimize the risk of damage and save money on maintenance and running costs. In this guide, we’ll provide a simple, hassle-free maintenance checklist to help you keep your truck in the best shape.

Tyre checks

Truck tyres are subjected to challenges in the form of heavy loads, tricky terrain and adverse weather conditions. If you drive a truck, it’s crucial to understand the importance of buying the right tyres for your vehicle and keeping an eye out for signs of wear and tear and damage. Check tyre pressure regularly, inspect your tyres before long journeys and seek advice if you’re worried about damage or your truck doesn’t seem to be handling properly. You will need to replace truck tyres periodically, but if your tyres are worn, you may need to replace them earlier than anticipated. Choose a reputable auto repairs shop, which specializes in services for trucks. You can read reviews and testimonials online and get quotes before you decide where to take your vehicle.

Windshield and mirrors

Drivers need to be able to see clearly through the windshield and use their mirrors constantly to identify hazards, monitor where other vehicles are and move, slow down and stop safely. Carry out regular visual inspections to look for chips and cracks and make sure you can see clearly. If the glass is damaged, it’s important to seek advice. Even minor chips and dents can turn into major issues, particularly if the weather is unpredictable, or you drive on uneven terrain and there is a risk of objects or debris flying up off the road surface.

Fluid levels

All vehicle owners should check the fluid levels in the engine on a regular basis. If your engine oil or water levels are low, top them up as soon as possible. Modern vehicles may have a warning light if levels drop, but if you have an older truck, you’ll need to check levels frequently.

Servicing

Regular routine services are designed to prolong the lifespan of vehicles and identify issues or warning signs that could cause problems if left undetected. During a service, mechanics will carry out a comprehensive series of checks and tests to make sure that the vehicle is running as it should be and highlight problems that need attention. It is important to note that services will not outline every possible problem with a vehicle and if there are issues with parts of the vehicle or systems that are not inspected during the service, you will need to schedule an appointment. Unless you have extensive experience in vehicle repairs, it is always best to seek professional advice for complex problems.
