Is Your Old Car Secretly Worth a Lot of Money_ Here’s How to Find Out

Are you a car enthusiast that has experience with classic cars? If so, then you probably don’t need us to tell you how much your vintage car is worth! But if you’re someone that just happens to have an old vehicle around that was perhaps passed down by your parents or relatives, then there’s a chance that it could secretly be worth a lot of money.

But how would you know? It’s hard to tell from a glance unless you have a lot of experience, but there are a couple of ways to check if your beloved vehicle is actually worth a lot of money, or if it’s just a pile of (lovable) scrap that’s seen better days.

Begin by giving it a good clean

You won’t learn much about your vehicle if it’s not cleaned first! You wouldn’t even be able to tell the original color or what the license plate says if it’s not given a good dusting and cleaning. Take care when cleaning classic cars because you could accidentally damage or scratch it if you’re not careful!

Where to start researching your old car

The first place to start is easy: the internet! Grab your smartphone and take a few pictures of your car, taking note of important things like the color, make or model, and so on. Doing a bit of research here will save you a lot of time in figuring out what the car is and how much it can be worth. You might even be able to track it down if it still has an old number plate. If you really can’t find information on this exact vehicle, then it helps to ask for help from an online forum or another person that you know (and can trust!) to tell you about the car.

Searching for deeper information after realizing it might be worth something

So you’ve tracked it down to a make or model. Perhaps even a year if you’ve been diligent in your research. If that’s the case, then you’ll want to do a bit more digging as cars of the same make and model can be wildly different in their pricing. This is where it helps to seek a specialist service that can give you a classic Porsche valuation or a more in-depth look at the vehicle that you have. Keep in mind that this service will probably cost a bit of money, so only do this if you’re really curious what your car might be!

Always get a second opinion!

If you’re determined to breathe life into an old car and figure out its worth, then you’ll always want to get a second opinion. Don’t be surprised if a valuation service lowballs the amount because they’re also trying to buy it from you for a bargain price! Make sure you search for multiple opinions if someone has told you that it’s worth a lot more than you think, and always do your own research to add to your knowledge as well.
