New York City to Expand Successful Neighborhood Loading Zone Program

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) seeing a shift in consumer behavior related to e-commerce, began the Neighborhood Loading Zone (NLZ) program in 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic shifted how millions of Americans work and shop helping supercharge the e-commerce boom leading to a rapid expansion of the NLZ program.

NLZ aims to accommodate deliveries to residential streets by providing dedicated space at the curb for vehicles to safely conduct their pick-up and drop-off activity of goods and passengers. The designated curb access is designed to decrease the need for double parking, blocking bike lanes, parking in bus stops or in other No Standing zones.

Recent expansion bought the full number of NLZs to 111. The specific locations are:

Manhattan

Chelsea – Phase 1

  • West 15th Street (6th Avenue to 8th Avenue)
  • West 16th Street (9th Avenue to 6th Avenue)

Chelsea – Phase 2

  • West 21st Street (7th Avenue to 6th Avenue)

Upper West Side – Phase 1

  • West End Avenue (West 79th Street to West 95th Street)

Upper West Side – Phase 2

  • West 90th Street (Central Park West to Broadway)

Bronx

Concourse

  • Gerard Avenue (East 153rd Street to East 167th Street)

Morris Heights

  • Tremont Avenue (Morris Avenue to Sedgwick Avenue)

Fordham Manor

  • Valentine Avenue (Bedford Park Boulevard to East 194th Street)
  • Bainbridge Street (East 199th Street to East 196th Street)

Brooklyn

Park Slope

  • 2nd Street (8th Avenue to 5th Avenue)
  • 3rd Street (4th Avenue to Prospect Park West)

Sunset Park

  • 48th Street (4th Avenue to 7th Avenue)
  • 49th Street (9th Avenue to 5th Avenue)
  • 50th Street (6th Avenue to 9th Avenue)
  • 51st Street (6th Avenue to 7th Avenue)

Williamsburg

  • Manhattan Avenue (Ainslie Street to Bayard Street)

Queens

Jackson Heights – Phase 1

  • 74th Street (37th Avenue to 31st Avenue)

Jackson Heights – Phase 2

  • 75th Street (34th Avenue to 37th Avenue)
  • 76th Street (34th Avenue to 37th Avenue)
  • 80th Street (34th Avenue to 37th Avenue)
  • 81st Street (Roosevelt Avenue to 34th Avenue)

Corona

  • 108th Street (52nd Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue)

Staten Island

St George – Phase 1

  • Richmond Terrace (Jersey Street to Street Peters Place)

St George – Phase 2

  • Hamilton Avenue (Stuyvesant Place to Academy Place)
